Lake Forest/Mitylene Forest Neighborhood News New Year, News for You
Dear Neighbor Visitor,
Happy New Year!
East Montgomery Neighborhood Alliance Meeting
Our neighborhood belongs to the East Montgomery Neighborhood Alliance. The next quarterly meeting will be held on January 14 at 7:00 p.m. We have a new location, First Christian Church. Our old location, Aldersgate, adopted a fee system that would have cost the alliance $200 for each meeting.
First Christian is located at 1705 Taylor Road, at the corner of Taylor and Berryhill roads. You can enter the church grounds from either Taylor or Berryhill. The front entrance is on the south side of the building, toward the softball complex. The three new city councilmen have been invited to speak: Fred Bell, District 6; William Green from District 5, and Brantley Lyons from District 2.
Presidential Primary Elections set for March 1
The next election in which we will have the privilege to participate will be the Presidential Primary on Tuesday, March 1. The absentee voting for that election begam on Jan 6. Remember that everyone in the neighborhood will be voting at Frazer again. The Arrowhead location was for the CITY election ONLY!
A neighbor in the 600 block of Whistlewood Rd. had their truck broken into in the last week, and a handgun was stolen. Unfortunately the vehicle was left unlocked. PLEASE be sure to lock your vehicles and bring any valuables inside your home!
Mitylene Forest Sign Renovation Complete
This past Fall, our association received a $500 BONDS grant from the City of Montgomery and the Montgomery County Commission for capital improvements to our neighborhood. The association used the funds to clean, paint and update/add lighting to the Mitylene Forest entrance sign on McLemore Road. The sign had deteriorated over the years with significant mildew buildup and faded paint. In addition, the sign had been vandalized with graffiti at some point, which became immediately evident once the sign was thoroughly scrubbed. The BONDS grant allowed us to clean and repaint the sign as well as replace a malfunctioning lighting system on one side and add a new lights to the other, which never had lighting until now.
The Lake Forest/Mitylene Forest Neighborhood Association is very grateful to the City of Montgomery and the Montgomery County Commission for making these funds available to refresh one of our neighborhood entryways!
